Our Program
Staff and Student Mobility
The Staff and Student Mobility Program serves as a dedicated platform for academic exchange, enabling staff and students from partner universities to participate in mobility activities across collaborating institutions. Through this program, participants are given the opportunity to engage in short-term academic visits, fieldwork, collaborative learning, and knowledge-sharing activities in diverse institutional and geographical settings.
More than just an exchange program, this initiative is designed to broaden perspectives, enhance cross-cultural understanding, and strengthen academic and professional networks. By experiencing different research environments, field locations, and institutional practices, participants gain valuable insights that enrich their academic development and practical skills.
The program also plays a key role in fostering collaboration among partner institutions, particularly between the Global South and the Global North, by encouraging the exchange of ideas, methodologies, and best practices. Ultimately, the Staff and Student Mobility Program contribute to building a more connected, inclusive, and globally engaged academic community aligned with the project’s long-term goals.

Scholarship
The SUSTAIN Project offers a comprehensive scholarship program designed to support students from partner universities in pursuing advanced studies aligned with their academic interests and fields of expertise. The scholarship is available for both master’s and doctoral programs, providing opportunities for participants to further develop their knowledge, research skills, and academic careers within an international and collaborative environment.
As a fully funded program, the SUSTAIN scholarship covers a wide range of academic and living expenses, including tuition fees, living allowances, transportation costs, research expenses, and graduation fees. This support ensures that recipients can fully focus on their studies and research without financial constraints.
The program aims to nurture a new generation of scholars who are equipped to address pressing global challenges, particularly in the area of sustainable natural resource governance. By fostering academic excellence, cross-institutional collaboration, and international exposure, the SUSTAIN scholarship contributes to building strong academic networks and producing impactful research that benefits both local and global communities.

Training and Workshop
The SUSTAIN Project offers a dynamic training and workshop program featuring a wide range of themes relevant to natural resources governance. The program is designed for department staff, students, and policymakers, providing a collaborative learning space to enhance knowledge, skills, and practical understanding of key issues in sustainable resource management.
Through a series of interactive sessions, expert-led discussions, and hands-on activities, participants are encouraged to engage with current challenges and emerging approaches in areas such as environmental governance, policy development, and community-based resource management. The program also promotes the exchange of experiences and best practices across institutions and regions.
By bringing together academic communities and policymakers, the training and workshop program aims to strengthen individual capacities, foster cross-sector collaboration, and support evidence-based decision-making. Ultimately, this initiative contributes to building a more informed, responsive, and sustainable approach to natural resource governance.

Small Grant Research
The Small-Grants Research Program supports staff members in deepening their expertise and strengthening their competencies within the project’s research agenda by providing competitive small-scale research funding. Through this program, participants are encouraged to initiate and conduct focused research projects that contribute to the broader thematic priorities of the project.
Beyond individual capacity development, the program creates opportunities for inter-departmental collaboration, enabling researchers to expand their academic networks and explore new areas of research development. It also serves as a platform for fostering innovative ideas, interdisciplinary approaches, and evidence-based outputs that can inform policy, practice, and further academic inquiry.
By supporting flexible and targeted research initiatives, the Small-Grants Research Program aims to cultivate a dynamic research environment, enhance institutional collaboration, and generate impactful knowledge aligned with sustainable development goals and the project’s long-term objectives.

Joint Fieldwork and Collaboration
The SUSTAIN Project offers a joint fieldwork and publication program designed for staff and researchers from partner universities to undertake collaborative research aligned with their academic expertise and interests. Through this program, participants work together in the field while also developing joint academic publications, creating opportunities for deeper knowledge exchange and shared learning.
The program provides comprehensive support throughout the research process, covering key research-related expenses such as transportation, research materials, and other essential costs required to successfully carry out the project.
Beyond supporting research activities, the program serves as a platform for meaningful collaboration among partners from the Global South, as well as between institutions from the Global South and the Global North. Researchers collaborate on topics related to the governance and sustainable management of natural resources, including nickel and tin mining, mangrove ecosystems, social forestry, salt ponds, and fisheries.
By fostering cross-regional collaboration and interdisciplinary perspectives, the program aims to generate impactful research and joint publications that contribute to more sustainable, inclusive, and equitable natural resource governance.
