To support human resource capacity development within higher education institutions, the SUSTAIN Project facilitated an intensive IELTS training program for staff members of the Department of Politics and Government at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). The program brought together researchers, administrative staff, and project staff who are actively involved in academic activities, research, and international collaboration. Conducted over two months, from October to November 2024, the training was delivered in partnership with Realia Inggris, a language training provider specializing in English language instruction.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in learning activities covering the four core components of the IELTS examination: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. In addition to building foundational skills, the training introduced participants to various test-taking strategies and approaches to strengthen their academic English proficiency. Prior to the start of the course, participants completed a pre-test to assess their initial level of English proficiency. A post-test was administered at the end of the program to evaluate learning progress and measure the impact of the training.
This initiative reflects the SUSTAIN Project’s commitment to strengthening both individual and institutional capacities to engage in international academic collaboration. By enhancing English language proficiency, participants are better equipped to access global knowledge resources, communicate effectively with international partners, and actively contribute to research and capacity-building activities. Through initiatives such as this, the SUSTAIN Project continues to support the development of globally connected and internationally engaged academic communities.
