SUSTAIN Facilitates Student Mobility and Knowledge Exchange among Partner Universities

Through its Student Mobility programme, the SUSTAIN Project facilitates academic mobility and knowledge exchange among students from partner universities. From August to October 2026, three students from Universitas Nusa Cendana (UNDANA)—Desira Delita Kuman, Salomo Bolle Januar, and Maria Donna Sumbi—had the opportunity to undertake a two-month internship at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). The programme was integrated with the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) programme to broaden students’ learning experiences and strengthen their capacities.

The student mobility programme was hosted by the Research Center for Politics and Government (PolGov), UGM. During the programme, the three students participated in a range of academic activities, including classroom learning, research, and capacity-building activities. The programme provided a space for knowledge and experience exchange among students from partner universities, particularly in exploring issues related to natural resource governance and sustainable transitions.

In line with SUSTAIN’s focus on sustainable natural resource governance, the students participated in several courses at UGM, including Energy Politics, Environmental Politics and Climate Change, and Community Management. Through these learning activities, they broadened their understanding of the social, political, and environmental dimensions of natural resource governance.

In addition to classroom learning, the students were encouraged to develop their skills in knowledge communication and dissemination. They had the opportunity to transform their undergraduate thesis topics into accessible and engaging content for wider audiences. The outputs are planned to be disseminated through PolGov’s social media platform, @polgovugm, as part of an effort to make academic knowledge more accessible to the public.

The students also participated in research-related activities by working with data from the PolGov Data Center, which contains data collected from previous research projects. Through this activity, they learned how research data can be further processed and transformed into more accessible knowledge products, including infographics. This provided them with practical experience in data processing and communicating research findings to wider audiences.

Through the Student Mobility programme, SUSTAIN seeks to strengthen collaboration among partner universities while creating opportunities for learning, knowledge exchange, and student capacity development. The programme is expected to equip students with relevant knowledge and skills to support their participation in inclusive and sustainable natural resource governance.
